TanTrade Urges Businesses to Embrace ‘Made in Tanzania’ Products

Tanzanian businesses should use solutions developed in Tanzania, including those that are affordable and accessible
September 2, 2026

The Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) has urged local businesses and manufacturers to embrace the use of “Made in Tanzania” products as part of efforts to strengthen domestic industries and expand the market for Tanzanian goods locally and internationally.

TanTrade Director General Ephraim Mafuru made the call during the 10th Africa Agri Expo 2026, being held in Tanzania for the first time.

Mafuru said the use of locally manufactured products presents an important opportunity for businesses to promote goods produced in the country, increase their value and create greater opportunities for the agricultural sector.

He noted that many agricultural products produced in Tanzania face strong competition in international markets, but local manufacturers can help address the challenge by focusing on quality, innovation and value addition.

“Tanzanian businesses should use solutions developed in Tanzania, including those that are affordable and accessible, rather than relying on products manufactured elsewhere,” Mafuru said.

He added that products developed and manufactured in Tanzania should be promoted more aggressively, rather than being exported to other countries and later re-imported as finished products.

According to Mafuru, embracing the Made in Tanzania brand can help build confidence in locally produced goods, strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity and open new opportunities for businesses to access regional and international markets.

Africa Agri Expo 2026

Africa Agri Expo 2026 brings together farmers, processors, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, experts, investors and service providers across the agriculture, food, livestock and poultry sectors.

The exhibition provides a platform for participants to learn about agricultural technologies and innovations, showcase products and services, explore investment opportunities and establish new business connections.

For Tanzania, participation in the exhibition also provides an opportunity for local producers and businesses to showcase their products, interact with potential buyers and investors, and explore new markets both within Africa and beyond.
