A total of 173 Tanzanian citizens who had been living in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal Province have safely returned home after voluntarily deciding to leave the country.
The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania provided a special aircraft to facilitate the return of the citizens, ensuring they travelled back to Tanzania safely and in an orderly manner.
The repatriation exercise was carried out through cooperation between the Tanzanian government, its Embassy in South Africa and the relevant authorities. The returning citizens were given an opportunity to come home voluntarily, with arrangements made to ensure their journey was conducted peacefully, safely and with dignity.
The government’s decision to provide a special flight highlights its commitment to supporting Tanzanians living abroad and responding to their welfare and safety needs when necessary.

Authorities said the exercise was also aimed at ensuring that Tanzanians who wished to return home could do so through an organised and secure process.
