DRC President Tshisekedi Arrives in Tanzania for Two-Day VVisit

During his visit, President Tshisekedi is expected to hold talks with President Samia on a range of areas of bilateral cooperation between Tanzania and the DRC.

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo has arrived in Tanzania for a two-day working visit from August 17 to 18, 2026, following an invitation from President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

President Tshisekedi arrived in Zanzibar on August 17 through Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, where he was received by Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Dr Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Tanzania’s Ambassador to the DRC, Said J. Mshana, and other government officials.

During his visit, President Tshisekedi is expected to hold talks with President Samia on a range of areas of bilateral cooperation between Tanzania and the DRC.

Key areas expected to feature in the discussions include trade and investment, agriculture and food security, mining, energy, transport and infrastructure, healthcare and digital technology.

The two leaders are also expected to discuss peace and security in the Great Lakes region, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The talks are expected to explore further opportunities for strengthening cooperation in sectors that are important to the economic and social development of both countries.

President Tshisekedi’s visit is aimed at strengthening the historical, fraternal and strategic relations between Tanzania and the DRC while promoting closer economic and social cooperation.

The visit is also expected to provide an opportunity for the two governments to review progress and discuss further steps in implementing existing agreements and cooperation programmes between the two countries.

Tanzania and the DRC have maintained longstanding relations, with cooperation extending across trade, transport, energy, security and other strategic sectors. The visit is therefore expected to further deepen bilateral ties and open new opportunities for collaboration between the two countries.
