President Samia Suluhu Hassan has said Tanzania is well positioned to become a leading manufacturing and trade hub in Africa, urging the private sector to take advantage of the country’s strategic geographical location to drive economic growth.
The President made the remarks on August 3, 2026, at the State House in Dar es Salaam during the launch of implementation tools for Tanzania’s long-term development vision, which aims to position the country as a key centre for production, trade, and investment on the African continent.
President Samia said the government will continue creating a business-friendly environment by reforming laws, policies, and institutions to attract both local and foreign investment. She noted that these reforms are expected to boost industrial production, improve competitiveness, and expand the market for Tanzanian products internationally.

“There is no reason why we cannot achieve this. Tanzania is strategically located. Even if goods are not produced here, our location means that trade moving across Africa must pass through Dar es Salaam,” she said.
She emphasized that Tanzania’s geographical position gives it a unique opportunity to serve as a gateway for regional and continental trade, particularly as African countries work toward deeper economic integration.
President Samia identified market connectivity and the movement of goods across Africa as some of the continent’s biggest challenges. She said the government is addressing these obstacles through major investments in transport infrastructure, including the expansion of the railway network, to improve logistics and facilitate trade.
The President added that strengthening transport systems and creating an enabling investment climate are key components of the government’s strategy to transform Tanzania into a competitive regional manufacturing, logistics, and trade hub under its long-term development agenda.
