TARI Urged to Accelerate Construction of New Headquarters in Mtumba, Dodoma

June 10, 2026

The Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) has been urged to speed up the construction of its new administrative headquarters in the Mtumba area of Dodoma in order to enhance efficiency in the execution of its duties.

The directive was issued by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Engineer Athumani Kilundumya, during an inspection visit to the project site, where he received a progress report and assessed the ongoing construction of the modern five-storey building. The facility is expected to serve as the central administrative headquarters for TARI.

During the inspection, Engineer Kilundumya reviewed the implementation status of the project and received detailed updates from engineers and project supervisors overseeing the construction works.

According to the report presented, the project is being financed through the Agriculture Development Fund (ADF), and its implementation officially began on January 30, 2026. Construction is currently progressing in line with the planned schedule and has reached 20 percent completion.

Engineer Kilundumya called on engineers, contractors, and project supervisors to intensify efforts to ensure the project is completed efficiently, with high quality standards and within the agreed timeframe. He further emphasized that, where possible, the project should be completed ahead of schedule to allow the institution to benefit earlier from the improved infrastructure.

He stressed that the completion of the headquarters will significantly improve working conditions for TARI staff and enhance efficiency in the institute’s operations. The facility is also expected to strengthen agricultural research activities aimed at improving productivity, advancing innovation, and supporting the overall development of the agricultural sector in Tanzania.

TARI plays a critical role in conducting agricultural research in the country, focusing on improving crop production, addressing climate change challenges, and enhancing food security. The new headquarters is expected to further strengthen the institution’s capacity to deliver on its mandate effectively.

The project is expected to be completed in 2027.
