Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has declared that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons, insisting Tehran is prepared to reassure the international community over its intentions even as regional tensions continue to escalate across the Middle East.

Speaking during a period of fragile diplomacy and growing military uncertainty, Pezeshkian said Iran’s nuclear programme is not aimed at producing atomic weapons and stressed that the country remains willing to provide guarantees to the world regarding the peaceful nature of its activities.

“We do not want nuclear weapons and we are ready to assure the world of that,” Pezeshkian said, in remarks that appear aimed at easing mounting international concern over Iran’s expanding nuclear activities and deteriorating regional security conditions.

The Iranian president, however, sharply criticised Israel, accusing it of fueling instability across the Middle East and deliberately prolonging regional conflicts for strategic and political purposes.

Pezeshkian claimed Israel’s actions have contributed significantly to insecurity in the region, arguing that ongoing military confrontations and tensions are being sustained through what he described as efforts to extend geopolitical crises.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, as diplomatic negotiations continue behind the scenes over regional security, sanctions, and the future of Iran’s nuclear programme.

The Middle East has remained on edge following months of military escalation, threats of retaliation, and growing fears that wider conflict could disrupt global energy markets and regional stability.

Pezeshkian also made clear that Iran would not accept any agreement aimed at ending current hostilities unless it serves the country’s national interests.

“Iran will not accept any deal that does not benefit its people and protect its sovereignty,” he said, signalling Tehran’s intention to take a firm stance in ongoing negotiations.

His comments reflect the increasingly cautious and strategic tone emerging from Tehran as international powers push for de-escalation while Iran seeks stronger guarantees regarding security, sanctions relief, and regional influence.

Analysts say Iran’s latest messaging appears designed to balance two competing objectives: reassuring the international community over nuclear fears while simultaneously projecting strength and resistance against external pressure.

For ordinary citizens across the Middle East, the continued uncertainty has deepened concerns over security, economic instability, and the possibility of broader conflict. Rising tensions have already contributed to volatility in oil markets and fears of disruption in key shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

Western governments remain cautious about Iran’s nuclear ambitions despite repeated denials from Tehran that it seeks atomic weapons. Israel, meanwhile, has consistently warned that it would not tolerate a nuclear-armed Iran, making the issue one of the most dangerous geopolitical flashpoints in the world.
