Donald Trump has said negotiations over a potential agreement with Iran are “largely negotiated,” signalling what he described as significant progress toward a deal that could include the reopening and protection of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
Trump said that while key details remain unresolved, recent diplomatic engagements have moved the talks forward, raising expectations that a broader regional understanding could soon emerge.
According to reports from international media outlets, the emerging draft framework under discussion may include measures aimed at reducing regional tensions and improving maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which a significant portion of global oil shipments passes daily.
The Strait has long been considered one of the world’s most sensitive geopolitical flashpoints due to its location between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula, and any disruption to its operations has historically triggered volatility in global energy markets.
Trump suggested that the remaining issues are now largely technical and procedural, indicating that negotiators are working to finalise a structure that could be announced if consensus is reached.
