A senior Chinese diplomat, Sun Weidong, has been removed from his position as vice minister of foreign affairs, marking the latest instance of a high-ranking official being dismissed by authorities in Beijing.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China through a brief statement published on its official website. The notice cited a decision by the State Council of China, the country’s top administrative body, but did not provide further details regarding the reasons behind the dismissal or the exact timing of the decision.
The lack of explanation has drawn attention, as such personnel changes are often announced without elaboration in China’s tightly controlled political system.
