Joseph Aoun, the President of Lebanon, has renewed calls for an immediate ceasefire and the launch of diplomatic negotiations with Israel, in a bid to bring an end to the ongoing conflict involving the militant group Hezbollah.
The appeal was made during a high-level meeting with France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, where both leaders discussed the deteriorating security situation along the Lebanon-Israel border and explored potential pathways toward long-term peace.
President Aoun emphasized the urgent need for coordinated international efforts to de-escalate tensions, warning that continued hostilities could have devastating consequences for civilians and the broader stability of the region. He stressed that sustained violence not only threatens lives but also undermines economic recovery and political stability in Lebanon.
“The continuation of this conflict risks dragging the region into deeper instability,” Aoun noted, underscoring the importance of constructive dialogue. He further highlighted that direct and transparent diplomatic engagement remains the most viable path toward achieving a lasting resolution.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified in recent weeks, with cross-border exchanges raising fears of a wider regional war.
