Tanzania, UAE Agree to Expand Trade Ties

The value of bilateral trade increased from approximately US$985.31 million in 2018 to about US$2.1 billion in 2024, positioning Tanzania as the UAE’s fourth-largest trading partner in Africa.

Tanzania and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to further strengthen their economic and trade relations following high-level talks between President Samia Suluhu Hassan and UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit (WGS 2026) in Dubai, where the two leaders committed to fast-tracking bilateral trade cooperation agreements and government-to-government investment frameworks aimed at improving the business and investment climate between the two countries.

According to details from the meeting, both sides emphasized the need to finalize pending commercial and investment agreements to accelerate joint ventures and cross-border projects. They also reviewed progress on existing cooperation initiatives and explored new areas of partnership.

Among the proposals discussed was the possible introduction of new Emirates Airline routes, including a Kilimanjaro–Zanzibar connection, designed to boost tourism flows and business travel between Tanzania and the Gulf region.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum pledged continued close collaboration through development-focused projects intended to support shared economic growth and mutual prosperity.
