The Vice-President of Tanzania, Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, arrived, 14 November 2025, at Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
He is attending on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to represent Tanzania at the Ninth Summit of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), which is scheduled to commence Today 15, November
Dr. Nchimbi, who officially assumed office as Vice-President on 3 November 2025, assumes a pivotal diplomatic role during this important gathering. The summit is expected to address issues of regional stability, peace, and sustainable development throughout the Great Lakes region.
On the eve of the summit, Kinshasa is also hosting a high-level forum entitled “The Great Lakes in Action: Economic Integration for Lasting Peace – Success Stories.” The forum brings together more than 250 participants, including government officials, business leaders, and development partners, to discuss strategies for promoting economic cooperation as a foundation for regional peace.
A major focus of the discussions is cross-border infrastructure development. Notable projects under review include the Tanzania–Burundi–DRC railway, the Lobito Corridor connecting the DRC, Zambia, and Angola, as well as the DRC–Uganda road corridor.

These initiatives are viewed not merely as infrastructure developments but as tangible steps toward long-term stability and regional integration.
The forum is organized jointly by the DRC’s Ministry of Regional Integration and the Public-Private Partnership Council, highlighting a collective commitment among member states to align diplomatic engagement with economic progress.
For Tanzania, Dr. Nchimbi’s participation underscores the country’s active involvement in ICGLR activities. The organization, which comprises twelve member states, has historically served as a critical platform for coordinated action on peace, security, and socio-economic development in the Great Lakes region.
