The Tanzania Police Force in the Mbeya Region has issued a strong warning to individuals and groups allegedly plotting to harm police officers in connection with the disappearance of political activist Mpaluka Said Nyagali, popularly known as Mdude, a known supporter of the opposition party CHADEMA.

Mdude has been missing since May 2, 2025, and police confirm that investigations are ongoing into the circumstances of his alleged abduction and assault by unknown assailants. Authorities are urging the public to provide any information that could help trace Mdude’s whereabouts and identify those responsible for the incident.

The Mbeya police have expressed concern over recent public statements made by CHADEMA leaders, which include allegations against specific police officers without presenting credible evidence. These accusations, the police say, have escalated into threats against law enforcement personnel and their families.

In response, the Mbeya Police Regional Office has warned that any attempts to harm officers or interfere with ongoing investigations will be met with legal action. The statement emphasized that no one should assume such criminal acts can be carried out with impunity.

Let this be a serious warning to any individual or group intending to engage in any criminal activity, including harming police officers or their families. The police will not hesitate to act firmly in accordance with the law,” the statement read.

The case of Mdude has sparked national concern, with human rights groups and political leaders calling for transparency and swift action in locating him safely and ensuring accountability for those involved in his disappearance.

The Tanzania Police have reiterated their commitment to a thorough and impartial investigation. They have appealed to anyone with helpful information to come forward immediately.
