Trump Says Russia Easier To Work With Than Ukraine

The meeting also concluded without the usual press conference, adding to speculation that relations between the two governments are growing strained

In a statement that has stirred fresh debate, U.S. President Donald Trump has said he finds it easier to deal with Russia than Ukraine, a remark that comes as his administration takes a different approach to the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe.

Speaking at the White House, President Trump suggested that negotiations with Moscow have been more straightforward than handling Ukraine’s leadership. “I actually think it’s easier to deal with Russia. Ukraine has been more difficult, even though they don’t have the cards,” he said. His comments have raised concerns among those who support continued U.S. backing for Ukraine in its fight against Russian forces.

The remarks follow a tense meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which reportedly ended on a sour note. Vice President JD Vance was particularly critical of Ukraine’s approach, and sources say the U.S. pulled back from a potential economic deal with Kyiv following the discussions. The meeting also concluded without the usual press conference, adding to speculation that relations between the two governments are growing strained.

Since returning to office, Trump has significantly shifted U.S. policy toward Ukraine. His administration has suspended military and intelligence aid, pursued direct negotiations with Russia, and ruled out NATO membership for Ukraine. The White House has also taken a softer stance on Moscow’s actions, with Trump stating that President Vladimir Putin is “doing what anybody in that position would be doing” to end the war.

These changes have sparked concern among Ukraine’s allies, who fear the U.S. may be stepping back from its previous commitments. With Russia ramping up its military offensives, Ukraine is facing growing pressure on the battlefield. Officials from both countries are now expected to meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss potential ways forward.

The shift in Washington’s stance has drawn mixed reactions. Critics argue that a more lenient approach toward Russia could embolden its military aggression, while supporters of Trump’s policy say renewed diplomacy with Moscow might offer a path to ending the conflict.
