Jay-Z (Shawn Carter) and Sean “Diddy” Combs have been cleared of allegations in a lawsuit filed by a woman who claimed they assaulted her in 2000 when she was just 13 years old.
The case, filed by a plaintiff identified only as Jane Doe, was dismissed voluntarily on February 14, 2025.
The plaintiff initially filed the lawsuit against Combs in October 2024, later adding Jay-Z as a defendant in December. The accusations centered on an alleged assault that took place after an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000. Jay-Z and Combs both denied the allegations from the start, with Jay-Z’s legal team labeling the claims as “baseless” and “false.”
In a statement following the dismissal, Jay-Z expressed his relief, calling the dismissal a “victory” and stressing that the case was without merit from the beginning. “These false accusations have been dismissed, and it’s time to move forward,” he said. “The distress this caused my family, friends, and I cannot be undone, but I’m thankful for the legal process that allowed the truth to prevail.”
Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, echoed this sentiment, criticizing the lawsuit as something that should never have been brought forward. “Jay stood firm against these harmful claims,” Spiro said. “He never settled, never paid, and ultimately defended himself from these unfounded allegations.”

The lawsuit was officially dismissed “with prejudice,” meaning it cannot be refiled in the future. While Jay-Z has been cleared of any wrongdoing, the case’s dismissal also highlights the ongoing challenges Combs faces in other legal battles related to sexual misconduct allegations.
Although the lawsuit is over, the emotional toll on those involved remains. Jay-Z and his team made it clear that they will continue to defend themselves against any further false claims and stand firm in seeking justice for those who face real accusations.
