The  celebration marking over a century of service, Rotarians spanning Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Southern Sudan have embarked on a significant initiative aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability and community welfare through extensive tree-planting efforts.

The mission kicked off in Dar Es Salaam over the weekend, where Rotary clubs in Tanzania planted 1,600 trees as part of their annual target of 30,000 across the country and Uganda within Rotary District 9214. This endeavor underscores the District’s commitment to promoting environmental stewardship and fostering community development.

A highlight of the event was the introduction of Tanzania’s third female governor, District Governor (DG) Agnes Batengas. “This initiative not only aims to beautify our landscapes but also to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come,” stated DG Agnes Batengas during the launch ceremony. “By planting these trees, we are actively contributing to mitigating climate change effects and improving our communities’ quality of life.”

The tree-planting campaign is part of Rotary’s broader global effort to address environmental challenges and promote community well-being. Through partnerships with local governments and community organizations, Rotary aims to plant trees in areas that will provide ecological benefits and enhance biodiversity.

“We are thrilled to see such enthusiastic participation from our members and partners across East Africa,” remarked a spokesperson from Rotary District 9214. “This initiative showcases Rotary’s commitment to serving our communities and protecting the environment.”

Moving forward, Rotarians plan to expand their tree-planting activities throughout the region, engaging more volunteers and stakeholders to achieve their ambitious environmental goals. With a focus on sustainability and community engagement, Rotary District 9214 hopes to inspire lasting positive change across East Africa.

The ongoing campaign invites individuals, schools, and communities to join efforts in planting and caring for trees, fostering a sense of collective responsibility towards environmental conservation.
