China Donates Sh1.3Bn To TZ Flood Victims, Initiates New Cooperation

To demonstrate the strong bond between the two nations, Minister Wang announced that China is providing $500,000( 1.3 billion Tanzanian shillings), to assist the flood victims in Tanzania this year.

After 60 years of historical relations, Tanzania and China  announced entering a new era of diplomatic relations. The goal is to build a better, more developed and more secure world.

In a joint meeting held in Beijing, China, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi, told the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, January Makamba, that in the last 60 years since the beginning of the relationship between these two countries, Tanzania has distinguished itself as a friend through thick and thin.

“Tanzania has always been a friend of China. For China, 60 years means a lot in the relationship. The next step after this is to continue this relationship in the new era of building a prosperous, just and safe world for all people” said Wang.

January Makamba ,who was in China on official visit following the invitation of his colleague ,also used the opportunity to explain how Tanzania appreciates the contribution of the Asian country in its development . emphasizing that the time has come to enter a new era to meet the challenges of the world now.

“China is our friend at all times. It is a friend who is predictable and does not change at all times. After these 60 years of glorious relationship, let’s now enter a new era of relationship that will focus on the challenges of building a better world than the one that existed at the time of the founders of this relationship” he said.

To demonstrate the strong bond between the two nations, Minister Wang announced that China is providing $500,000( 1.3 billion Tanzanian shillings), to assist the flood victims in Tanzania this year.

Several areas of Tanzania have been affected by heavy monsoon rains mixed with those of El Nino and the Chinese Minister said the Chinese have heard about the effects and have given the donation to help the victims start their lives anew.

Makamba, expressed his gratitude for the gesture , stressing that it is another proof of the unique friendship between the two countries.

The Chinese Government also used the occasion to  extend an official invitation to President Samia Suluhu Hassan to attend the upcoming FOCAC meeting in September.

The summit will focus on security issues between China and Africa. This triennial summit plays a crucial role in shaping the strategic relationship between African nations and China.

Additionally, China has agreed to Tanzania’s request for enhancements to the Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim College of Diplomacy, involving infrastructure expansion, curriculum development, and a focus on strategic global issues. Dr. Salim, a highly respected Tanzanian diplomat in China, has been instrumental in elevating the college’s status due to his diplomatic significance and contributions to both countries.

January Makamba,who was accompanied Hon.Zahor Haji Member of Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania and Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security (NUU) ,  visited and held talks with institutions and leaders of organizations involved in aid to Tanzania, including the EXIM bank, which has promised to continue lending on strategic projects.
