Tanzania’s Prime Minister Attends Expo 2025 in Osaka

Tanzania is set to celebrate its official National Day at the Expo on May 25, with a colourful program of traditional music, cultural showcases, and speeches highlighting Tanzania’s strategic goals and development vision.

Tanzania’s Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, has arrived in Osaka, Japan as the country’s representative at the World Expo 2025 Osaka, a major international event designed to showcase global innovation, cultural exchange, and sustainable solutions for future societies.

Landing on May 23, 2025, Mr. Majaliwa is leading a high-level Tanzanian delegation to promote the country’s investment potential, boost tourism interest, and enhance diplomatic ties with Japan and other participating nations. He is standing in for Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who appointed him to represent her at the global expo.

During his stay, the Prime Minister will participate in a business and investment forum that brings together executives, entrepreneurs, and public sector leaders from both countries. The forum aims to deepen trade relations and open new avenues for economic cooperation in areas such as agriculture, renewable energy, infrastructure, and tourism.

On May 26, Mr. Majaliwa will address a dedicated investment summit, expected to result in several cooperation agreements between Tanzanian and Japanese entities.

The Tanzanian pavilion, managed by the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade), offers a vibrant display of the nation’s natural beauty, economic opportunities, and technological aspirations. Visitors can explore interactive exhibits on iconic destinations such as Mount Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti National Park, and the historic Zanzibar Archipelago.

The Expo 2025, themed “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” began on April 13, and will run until October 13, 2025, on Yumeshima Island, a reclaimed island in Osaka Bay. Over 160 countries are participating, with exhibitions focused on technological innovation, health, environment, and global cooperation.

This marks the second time Osaka has hosted a world expo. The first was Expo ’70, held during Japan’s post-war rise, remembered for its groundbreaking architecture and cultural diplomacy.

Mr. Majaliwa’s presence at this year’s event signals Tanzania’s commitment to positioning itself as a key player in regional development and global markets. It also reflects the country’s proactive foreign policy and long-term vision for industrial growth, innovation, and sustainable development.
