Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), has arrived in Antalya, Turkey, for a three-day working visit aimed at deepening diplomatic and economic ties with the international community.
His visit comes as Tanzania takes part for the first time in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF), a major international gathering that has become a hub for dialogue on global peace, security, and cooperation. This year’s forum, running from April 11 to 13, is themed “Reclaiming Diplomacy in a Fragmented World” and brings together leaders, diplomats, policymakers, businesspeople, and academics from around the world.
During his time in Antalya, Minister Kombo is scheduled to attend the ADF conference sessions, engage in bilateral talks with several international figures, and oversee the signing of a key Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tanzania and Turkey. The agreement will establish a Joint Cooperation Commission (JPC), opening up opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, health, education, defense, tourism, and security.
Speaking ahead of the meetings, Minister Kombo highlighted the significance of Tanzania’s participation at the forum. “This is a critical moment for us to expand our engagement with the world,” he said. “We are here not just to take part, but to build strong, lasting partnerships that will benefit the people of Tanzania.”
Among the high-level figures Minister Kombo is expected to meet are Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, and Deodat Maharaj, Executive Director of the United Nations Technology Bank for Developing Countries.

The Antalya Diplomacy Forum, now in its fourth edition, is one of the largest gatherings of its kind. Organizers expect over 4,500 participants this year, including 21 heads of state and 80 foreign ministers, with representatives from more than 140 countries. Panel discussions at the forum are set to cover a wide range of pressing global topics, from climate change and conflict resolution to the future of diplomacy in the digital age.
For Tanzania, the forum presents an opportunity not only to share its perspectives on international issues but also to showcase its readiness for investment and cooperation in various sectors.
Minister Kombo’s presence in Antalya signals a growing emphasis on economic diplomacy in Tanzania’s foreign policy—a move that seeks to create real opportunities back home by strengthening the country’s global partnerships.
