Tanzania has reaffirmed its strong commitment to actively participate in global efforts to reform food systems, with the aim of building sustainable, inclusive, and resilient systems that support the well-being of people, the planet, and the global economy.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, made the statement while delivering Tanzania’s national declaration during the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS+4), taking place in Addis Ababa from July 27 to 29, 2025.

Speaking on behalf of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, Minister Kombo noted that despite ongoing global challenges—such as climate change, economic crises, and inequality—Tanzania remains committed to implementing its food system transformation strategy grounded in principles of gender equality, good governance, and inclusive development.

“Food must not merely serve to feed us; it must be part of strengthening our economy, restoring our environment, and preserving the dignity of every human being,” said Minister Kombo, emphasizing that Tanzania is focusing on environmentally friendly agriculture, empowering smallholder farmers, women, and youth, and integrating nutrition into national policies and plans.

In his speech, Tanzania also called on the international community to strengthen solidarity, increase investment in sustainable agriculture, and provide technology and resources to enhance participation in global food systems.

The UNFSS+4 Summit is a key platform for evaluating progress and addressing challenges since the inaugural summit in 2021, with the goal of enhancing international cooperation toward achieving safe, inclusive, and environmentally conscious food systems.
