In a rare public demonstration, crowds of Palestinians took to the streets in northern Gaza, voicing frustration over Hamas’s leadership and the ongoing conflict.
The protests, which broke out in areas like Beit Lahia and the Jabalia refugee camp, saw people chanting slogans demanding change and an end to the war. Some demonstrators held signs reading “We want to live in peace” and “Stop the war,” reflecting growing discontent among civilians.
Witnesses reported that protesters burned tires and blocked roads as they called for improved living conditions and an end to hostilities. Many blame Hamas for their struggles, saying years of conflict have brought hardship and destruction. “We are tired of war, we just want to live our lives,” said one protester, who, like others, spoke anonymously due to security concerns.

Public criticism of Hamas is uncommon in Gaza, where the group maintains strict control over dissent. However, the worsening humanitarian situation has fueled anger, especially after renewed fighting broke out following the collapse of a ceasefire agreement. Israeli airstrikes have caused severe damage in the region, worsening an already dire crisis for civilians. Many are struggling with shortages of food, water, and medical supplies, making daily life increasingly difficult.
In response to the demonstrations, Hamas security forces reportedly moved in to disperse the crowds. Despite the risks, the protests highlight a growing sense of frustration among ordinary Gazans, many of whom feel trapped between ongoing violence and a leadership they believe has failed them.
