NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has admitted that Ukraine is not in a strong position to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin amid the ongoing conflict.
Speaking at a press briefing, Stoltenberg stated that while NATO continues to support Ukraine, the country is facing significant challenges due to the ongoing war and the military dominance of Russia in some areas.
Stoltenberg emphasized that Ukraine’s ability to negotiate peace or reach a settlement with Russia remains hindered by the power imbalance, particularly as Russia continues its military actions in Ukraine.

Despite Ukraine’s resilience and support from NATO and other Western allies, the situation on the ground presents considerable obstacles to diplomatic progress.
The NATO chief also reiterated the alliance’s commitment to supporting Ukraine with both military and financial assistance, noting that any peace settlement would need to be based on Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This acknowledgment comes as the conflict enters its second year, with no clear end in sight. Stoltenberg’s remarks reflect the growing challenges faced by NATO in balancing its support for Ukraine with the realities of a protracted war.
