Former Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Mizengo Kayanza Peter Pinda, arrived in Gaborone, Botswana, on October 19, 2024.
Hon. Mizengo Pinda will lead the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Election Observation Mission (SEOM) for the General Election of the Republic of Botswana, scheduled to take place on October 30, 2024.
Upon his arrival at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone, Hon. Pinda was received by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Botswana, based in South Africa, Hon. James Bwana.

Hon. Pinda is leading SEOM following his appointment by the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security (Troika), and President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Hon. Pinda will officially launch the SEOM mission, which consists of members from SADC Member States, on October 22, 2024.
Along with other Troika members (Zambia and Malawi), Hon. Pinda will meet various election stakeholders, including the Botswana Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), SADC Ambassadors in Botswana, political parties, civil society organizations, religious institutions, and the media. They will discuss SEOM’s role during the election period leading up to the completion of the electoral process.
