Lake Victoria Basin Participates in Scientific Forum on Water Resources

The Lake Victoria Basin Water Board participated in a Scientific Forum involving stakeholders from various sectors in the management and development of water resources, particularly the Mara River Basin. The forum was held at Maasai Mara University Conference Hall in Narok County, Kenya.

The forum aimed to review the implementation of the resolutions from the 12th Mara River Day celebrations held in 2023 in Mugumu, Serengeti, Tanzania.

It also focused on endorsing the terms of reference for working groups, advancing the strategic conservation plan for the Mara River Basin, sharing international experiences on how best to engage multiple sectors in water resource management, and discussing strategies for securing funds to manage and develop the conservation of the Mara River Basin.

The theme of the forum was “Together: Let’s Conserve the Mara River Basin for Sustainable Biodiversity and Climate Resilience.”

The Director of the Lake Victoria Basin Water Board, Dr. Renatus Shinhu, along with experts from the board, participated in the forum in Kenya and in the 13th Mara River Day celebrations. The Tanzanian delegation was led by the Mara Regional Commissioner, Colonel Evans Alfred Mtambi.
