Kenyans have advanced their efforts to hold politicians accountable, building on a wave of youth-led protests against tax hikes by the ruling government. Although President William Ruto agreed to withdraw the Finance Bill 2024, many Kenyans view this concession as just the beginning of their fight to reclaim power.

The youth have evolved from using chants, water bottles, and placards to leveraging technology. What began as anti-Finance Bill protests has transformed into broader anti-government demonstrations, sparking an unprecedented revolution across the country.

A notable development is the creation of an AI platform by a Kenyan known as BenwithSon on X. This platform provides detailed information on past corruption scandals involving politicians and government officials.

By querying a politician’s name, users receive a chronological list of corruption scandals, including case details and outcomes. The ChatGPT-powered tool also indicates whether the politician was prosecuted or cleared of the allegations, citing sources for each case and inviting users to contribute any missing information to enhance accuracy.

This isn’t the first instance of Kenyans using Artificial Intelligence to scrutinize government actions. Kelvin Onkundi previously launched the Finance Bill GPT to explain the complex clauses of the contentious bill, while Marion Kavengi developed the SHIF GPT to clarify the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) that will replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

These technological advancements highlight the growing role of AI in Kenyan political activism, empowering citizens to demand transparency and accountability from their leaders.
