Former U.S. President Joe Biden, aged 82, has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has metastasized to his bones, according to a statement released by his personal office on Sunday.
The diagnosis followed medical evaluations prompted by urinary symptoms and the discovery of a prostate nodule. Doctors have assigned a Gleason score of 9 to the cancer, indicating a high-grade and rapidly progressing disease. Despite the severity, the cancer is hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management through treatments such as hormone therapy, radiation, or chemotherapy. (The Times)
Biden and his family are currently consulting with physicians to explore the most suitable treatment options.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among men in the United States, particularly affecting older individuals. Early detection is crucial, as the disease can be more effectively managed before it spreads beyond the prostate.
During his tenure as Vice President under President Barack Obama, Biden led the Cancer Moonshot initiative, aiming to accelerate cancer research and improve treatments. This effort was deeply personal for Biden, following the loss of his son, Beau Biden, to brain cancer in 2015.

Former President Donald Trump expressed his well-wishes on social media, stating, “We are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
Vice President Kamala Harris also conveyed her support, highlighting Biden’s resilience and commitment to public service. “Joe is a fighter – and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership,” Harris said.
