Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has once again captured global attention after breaking the Guinness World Record for cooking the largest pot of jollof rice ever recorded.
On Friday, September 12, 2025, Baci prepared a staggering 8,780 kilograms of the beloved West African dish, drawing crowds of fans, culinary enthusiasts, and celebrities to witness the historic feat.
The massive task required a specially designed cooking vessel capable of holding 22,619 liters, which Baci and her team filled to 80 percent capacity. Around 5,278 kilograms of basmati rice were carefully measured and combined with traditional spices, vegetables, and sauces over a nine-hour cooking period. The precision and coordination demonstrated the chef’s meticulous planning and commitment to her craft.
Baci first became internationally recognized in 2023 when she set a record for cooking continuously for 93 hours. Although that previous record was later surpassed, her latest achievement reaffirms her status as a trailblazer in culinary arts across Africa. Her innovative approach celebrates not only her skills but also the rich cultural heritage embedded in Nigerian cuisine.
