China, Japan, and South Korea have agreed to push forward negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA).

The decision comes as new trade restrictions loom from the United States, raising concerns about potential disruptions to global markets.

Meeting in Seoul, trade officials from the three countries discussed ways to deepen their economic ties. South Korea’s Trade Minister, Ahn Duk-geun, highlighted the importance of working together to enhance trade under the existing Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). He also emphasized that advancing a trilateral FTA would create a more open and stable market for businesses across the region.

China’s Ministry of Commerce echoed this sentiment, stating that closer trade ties between the three nations would benefit not only their economies but also contribute to global stability. The ministry expressed its commitment to working with Japan and South Korea to accelerate discussions on the agreement.

If implemented, these tariffs could significantly affect major exporters in Asia, disrupting supply chains and increasing costs for manufacturers and consumers alike.

Despite historical tensions, China, Japan, and South Korea recognize the mutual benefits of strengthening trade relations. Their goal is to create a more integrated and resilient economic partnership that can withstand global uncertainties.

The three countries plan to meet again in Japan to continue negotiations and explore ways to navigate the shifting trade landscape. By working together, they aim to foster long-term economic growth and stability in the region.
