The Catholic community in Kenya is mourning the tragic loss of Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett, who was fatally shot on Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Father Bett, serving at St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Parish, was ambushed by armed assailants while returning from a Small Christian Community meeting in Kabartile Village.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), six suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing. Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was targeted, with no links to cattle rustling or banditry.

Father Bett was known for his unwavering commitment to peace and community service. He often ministered in remote areas, providing spiritual guidance and support to marginalized communities. His dedication extended beyond the pulpit, as he actively participated in local development initiatives and educational programs.
