U.S. President Joe Biden has expressed doubts about a peaceful transition of power if Donald Trump loses in the upcoming November election.

In his first interview since withdrawing from the race last month, Biden told CBS News, “If Trump loses, I have no faith at all.” He added,

“[Trump] means what he says, and we don’t take him seriously. He means it, all this talk about ‘if we lose there will be bloodshed.’

Trump’s comments that “there will be bloodshed in the country” if he loses the election, made while discussing the auto industry in March, sparked a wave of criticism.

Democrats reiterated their campaign message that the former president poses a threat to democracy.

Biden’s campaign used the “bloodshed” comments in an ad, shared on social media accounts, with a spokesperson accusing Trump of “inciting political violence.”

However, Trump’s campaign argued that the comments were about the auto industry and were taken out of context.
