Former Brazil international football star Roberto Carlos, 53, has reportedly embraced Islam in Brazil, according to Turkish lawmaker Ali Şahin.
Şahin said he received the information from Sheikh Jihad Hammadeh during his recent engagements with representatives of the Muslim community in Brazil.
In a social media post, Şahin said he had met with representatives of Islamic communities in the country, where he was informed that the former football star had converted to Islam.
“ We met with representatives of Islamic communities in Brazil. Legendary footballer Roberto Carlos has become a Muslim,” Şahin wrote in his post.

Roberto Carlos is widely regarded as one of the greatest left-backs in football history. He enjoyed a highly successful career with the Brazilian national team and Spanish giants Real Madrid, where he won several major domestic and international titles.
The reported conversion has attracted attention among football fans and the Muslim community, although the information has so far been attributed to Şahin and Sheikh Hammadeh.
Roberto Carlos has not, in the information available, publicly issued his own statement confirming the reported conversion.
If confirmed, his decision would mark a significant personal development for one of Brazil’s most recognised football figures, whose career has earned him a global following.
