Former African Union ambassador Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao has criticized the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), calling it a tool of manipulation used to destabilize Africa and keep the continent dependent on Western powers.
Speaking in response to cuts in USAID funding under former U.S. President Donald Trump, Dr. Chihombori-Quao argued that such reductions highlight the agency’s role in fostering reliance rather than genuine development. “USAID has never been about helping Africa stand on its own. It is a strategic instrument used to control African economies and political systems,” she stated.
She urged African leaders to reject foreign dependency and prioritize sovereignty and self-reliance. According to Dr. Chihombori-Quao, the time has come for Africa to break free from Western influence and chart its own path toward sustainable growth.
