The famous artist and businessman Akon has been issued a stern warning by the Senegalese government to begin construction on his Akon City project immediately, or he risks losing 90% of the allocated land. This significant project, valued at $6 billion (TZS 16.2 trillion), was officially launched in 2020 on 136 acres of Atlantic coastline.
However, construction has been stalling since 2018.

The national tourism and coastal development agency of Senegal, Sapco-Senegal, has warned that Akon must commence construction immediately or forfeit a large portion of the designated land. This action is being taken after Akon failed to make several payments to Sapco, according to Bloomberg.
The Senegalese government expects to see rapid progress on this project, which holds substantial economic and tourism sector growth potential for the country.
